Raw Mango Health Benefits and Aam Ka Panna

Raw mango, or kaccha aam, is one of summer's most refreshing seasonal foods. Tangy, juicy and naturally rich in vitamin C, raw mangoes have long been used in Indian homes to make chutneys, pickles and the much-loved aam ka panna.

Beyond its deliciously sharp flavour, raw mango can add useful nutrients to your summer diet. It contains vitamin C and antioxidants, which support normal immune function and help protect cells from oxidative stress. It also provides some vitamin A, folate and potassium.

Raw mango is also a good way to add variety to a summer diet. Its tangy flavour can stimulate the appetite, while its fibre content supports normal digestion. However, raw mango itself does not magically prevent dehydration or heatstroke. Staying hydrated with adequate water and limiting prolonged exposure to extreme heat remain essential.

Aam Ka Panna: A Traditional Summer Cooler

Aam ka panna is traditionally prepared from cooked raw mango pulp, water, roasted cumin, black salt and a little sweetener. It is refreshing, tangy and particularly enjoyable on hot afternoons.

Easy Aam Ka Panna Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium raw mangoes
  • 3–4 cups chilled or room-temperature water
  • 1–2 tablespoons jaggery or sugar, according to taste
  • ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black salt
  • A few mint leaves
  • Ice, if desired

Method:

Wash the raw mangoes and boil or roast them until completely soft. Allow them to cool, then remove the skin and extract the pulp.

Blend the pulp with jaggery, roasted cumin powder and black salt. Add water and blend again until smooth. Adjust the sweetness and consistency according to taste.

Pour into glasses and add mint leaves. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

A Summer Habit Worth Keeping

Aam ka panna can be a refreshing alternative to sugary packaged drinks. Keep the added sugar modest, especially if you are watching your calorie or sugar intake.

Enjoy seasonal foods, drink water regularly, eat balanced meals and stay cool during hot weather. Sometimes, traditional summer wisdom is wonderfully simple: use what the season naturally gives you.
